Bafta news award shortlist revealed

The collapse of the Paul Burrell trial, the death of the Queen Mother, the Palestine-Israeli conflict and the Soham murders are the subjects vying for the coveted best news coverage plaudit at this year’s British Academy of Film and Television Awards, writes Wale Azeez.

The nominated coverage from BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky News respectively, will fight it out until the winner is announced at the awards presented by Anne Robinson on 13 April at the London Palladium.

Panorama is nominated twice for best current affairs programme, with its exposŽ on horse racing, Corruption of Racing and its Licence to Murder programme from last year.

Campaigning journalist John Pilger’s film on the Middle East crisis Palestine Is Still The Issue is ITV’s contribution to the nomination list, while Channel 4 is up for the award with its film Young, Nazi & Proud about a young member of the far right British National Party who was followed for a period by a Jewish journalist.
