The News of the World and Barnardo’s celebrated the nation’s most selfless heroes and heroines with the second Children’s Champions Awards in London. Winners were presented with their awards by Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie at 10 Downing Street.

Blair said: “No one could fail to feel inspired and humbled. I congratulate Barnardo’s and the News of the World.”

A host of celebrities including Simon Cowell, Kelly Holmes, Russell Watson, Barbara Windsor and Blue’s Duncan James joined winners and guests at a gala dinner.
