Award to commemorate Lee-Potter

By Press Gazette

The Society of Women Writers & Journalists (SWWJ) is searching
for the most outstanding UK national woman journalist to receive an
award commemorating the life and work of Lynda Lee-Potter, who died
last October.

Lee-Potter was the Daily Mail’s star woman
columnist and feature writer for more than 30 years and was awarded an
OBE in 1997 in recognition of her outstanding contribution to
journalism.

In 1989 she was voted British Woman Writer of the
Year to celebrate the 95th Anniversary of the SWWJ, of which she was an
enthusiastic member.

Her family have expressed unanimous support for the new award and are closely involved in the project.

“We
are thrilled and so proud that our mother is being honoured in this
way,” said Emma Lee-Potter, the eldest of her three children, all of
whom are freelance journalists. “She would have loved the idea,
especially as she was always so supportive of other writers.”

Society
members, together with members of the public, are invited to nominate
their most esteemed UK woman journalist, who must be a staff member or
contributor to a UK national newspaper.

The award ceremony will be held at the Royal Institution, Albemarle Street, London W1, on 26 October.
