Argus deputy editor Pat Lewis has resigned from the Brighton daily for a post in public relations.
Her resignation came two days after Newsquest confirmed the redundancy of the paper's respected award-winning crime reporter Phil Mills.
Four reporters — Kate Morrison, Jenny Legg, Miriam Wells and Lucy Brinicombe — have also resigned from the Argus for new jobs.
One insider told Press Gazette: "Pat Lewis leaving is another great loss to the paper. After Phil going it is very uncertain times. Morale could do with a lift."
