After beginning his journalistic career in local newspapers and then freelancing for the nationals, Andrew Pierce first joined the Times in 1988. Following a spell as assistant editor at the Daily Express, he re-joined The Times in 1999 also as assistant editor.

Pierce said: "I am delighted to be joining the leading quality daily newspaper at such an exciting time in its development. I really look forward to working with John Bryant in building The Daily Telegraph's unrivalled reputation for news."

John Bryant said: "I am delighted Andrew is coming to the Telegraph. He is a brilliant journalist with a proven ability to uncover important and newsworthy stories. He'll be an enormous asset to the paper."
