OK! magazine put on over 100,000 new readers last year, many drawn in by exclusive pics of glamour model Jordan’s pink wedding, catapulting it to the top of the women’s weekly sector.
Overall, the market grew 7.4 per cent last year, grabbing more than more than 600,000 new readers, a rise attributed to the hugely popular celebrity weeklies.
Emap’s Closer and Heat have also shown sales rises, of 14.7 per cent and 4.2 per cent respectively – with Closer leapfrogging long-term market leader Now for second place in the sector.
For the real life and mature women’s weeklies, however, the ending has not been so happy, with every title losing sales. Biggest drop was for IPC’s Woman, which lost 13.5 per cent of sales to 456,524.
