A new bingo moment

By Press Gazette

Who says the regional press has lost its pioneering spirit? First was newspaper bingo, copied in the Eighties by the nationals.

Then there was the News Shopper’s Shop-A-Yob, picked up by The Sun. Now the same south east London paper has combined the two – Yes, it’s Shop-A-Yob Bingo.

It may sound like a Private Eye spoof, and the broadsheet commentators will doubtless sniff, but if it has results like its predecessor – a campaign which reduced bus vandalism by up to 80 per cent – then where’s the harm in that?
